WABL RECAP – ROUND 12

Wolfpack WABL teams were in action for Round 12 of the 2024 WABL season. It was a terrific day of basketball for the Wolves, and teams had a record of 22 wins and 13 losses for the day. Champs teams had a dominant record of 9 and 1.

The U12 Girls played some exciting basketball on Sunday! It was an undefeated Sunday as all 4 teams had wins. The U12-Champs girls won 42-33 against Perry Lakes in a tightly contested, competitive game. They had a huge 21-9 run in the 3rd quarter which separated them from the Hawks. Team 2 had a 40-13 win over the East Perth 1’s team. Team 3 continued the good run for the age group 41-24 against Redbacks 2’s. Parker Francis had a big 16-point performance in the win. Team 4 had a big win 46-17 over Lakeside as well.

The U12 Boys had a 2-2 weekend. The Champs team had a comeback win over the Hawks. It was exciting and came down to the final moments. Team 2 fell short against Lakeside’s 1s. Team 3 had an exciting 37-34 win over Hills Raiders 1’s. And U12-4s performed well against Willetton but fell 4 points short at the end.

The U14 Girls had a 2-2 weekend. The Champs girls had a blowout win over the Cougars, finishing up 65-33. Team 2 had a very close game. Down 11 with 2:09 left, the girls did everything they could to get back into the game and got it back to 46-43. But ultimately they ran out of time and the game finished there. Team 3 had a 10- point win over Lakeside. They were down 1 going into the 4th, but dominated the final quarter to get a win. Team 4 lost to East Perth 2’s.

The U14 Boys came away with a record of 3-1. The U14-Champs boys played a terrific game and beat the Suns 74-36. The U14-2 Boys delivered another successful outing with a 54-52 win over Willetton. What makes this more impressive is the fact that this was a rematch from the State Champs Championship game where the Wolves 2’s lost by 25. They have improved tremendously since that point. Team 3 had a blowout win against Magic and got to 102 points as a team. Alessandro Agostini had a team high 30-points. Lastly, team 4 had a close game that ended in a loss against the Eagles team.  

The U16 Girls had a great day and went 3-1 as a group. The Champs team played the Redbacks and won 61-59. Lea Mirthil had a big game with 17 points, but Luca Kuhn, Rose Wheeler, and Lucy Corden were all in double figures. U16-2s prevailed over Hills 1s, 65-42. The team broke the game wide open in the 2nd quarter with a 21-5 margin there. Team 3 also had a win and went up 59-52 against the Redbacks. This brings the team into a tie on the ladder with the Redbacks for the 3rd spot. Team 4 had a loss against the Hawks.

The U16 Boys went 2-2 on Sunday. The Champs team had a dominant 101-59 win over Mandurah. Joseph Lolham and Owen Baker had big games with 24 and 25 points. Team 2 had what coach Jackson Pickett considered their “best performance as a team all year.” They beat East Perth 104-83. Team 3 dropped their second game of the season and remain 1st place on the ladder, but on Sunday they fell 5 points short. Team 4 had a slow start in the first half and lost to the Eagles by 18.

The U18 Women went 3-1 Sunday. The U18 Champs had another impressive victory with an 87-42 win over Redbacks. They move to a tie for second on the ladder. Team 2 had a close win against Slammers 1s, winning 50-47. Up as much as 45-26, the game got very close and interesting, getting down to a 1-point margin in the 4th. But the Wolves made some free throws and got defensive stops to hold on to a victory. Team 3 had a 13-point loss against Magic. Team 4 won 85-50 against Redbacks. They impressively had 5 players in double-figures.

The U18 Men had mixed results on the weekend, totaling a 1-3 record. The U18 Champs came up short, 86-74 against the Suns. They got the game to 7-8 points for a while in the 4th, and just couldn’t get the run to advance or every get any closer than that. The U18-2s lost 76-52.  Team 3 lost 97-70 to Slammers 1s. Team 4 remains undefeated and beat 3rd place Cockburn 90-79.

The U20 Men went 1-1, while the U21 Women also added a victory. The 20 Champs Men were rolling. They won 133-62 against Redbacks and were quite impressive. Team 2 lost to Cougars after a slow start in quarter 1. They U21 Champs Women had a great 80-60 victory over Cougars.
