WABL Recap – Round 14!

Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 14 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a 22-13 record, a .629 win rate.

The U12 Champs Girls went to Mandurah and came out victorious, 44-37. The 11-4 3rd quarter put the margin in an otherwise back and forth game. Our U12-2 Girls Green were defeated 35-66 at the hands of Cockburn 3s. U12-3 Girls White looked to have the game in hand, creating a 34-23 lead into the middle of the 4th quarter but credit to the opposition in mounting a successful comeback to snatch the victory away from our Wolves who lost 34-35 in the end. The U12-4 Girls used a powerful 4th quarter comeback against the Tigers 4s, winning the 4th by 13-7 to complete the comeback and come away with a 35-33 victory. Emily Swarbrick nailed 2 free throws in the dying embers of the game to secure the win.

The U14 Champs Girls took the trip to Rockingham and were defeated 45-48. The U14-2 Girls played hard throughout a 109-34 victory over Eagles 2s. The U14-3 Girls eclipsed the Suns, 53–33 on the road. The U14-4 Girls defeated Hills 2s 66-44 with an impressive 40-18 2nd half on the ledger.

The U16 Champs Girls went to Cockburn and came away with a 42-49 defeat.  The U16 Girls Green Wolves overcame a 2-4 1st quarter score line to win 68-46 on the road in Mandurah.  The U16 Girls White Wolves defeated the Lightning 3s 71-45.  The U16-4 Girls lost a nailbiter 49-52 against Hills 2s.

The U18-4 Women lost 41-73 to Hawks.  The U18-3 Women dispatched of the Senators 3s 68-50.  The U18-2 Women took the shoe to the Redbacks 2s 65-33. The U18 Champs Women extinguished the Flames 82-61 with decisive 2nd and 4th quarter runs. Well Done Girls!

The U21 Champs Women built a lead in the 1st quarter but gave up a run in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, the breaks of the game did not go the way of the Wolfpack, and we were defeated 65-69.

The U12 Boys had a 4-0 weekend. The U12 Champs got better as the game wore on, eclipsing the Suns 46-18 in the 2nd half as part of a 78-48. The U12-2 Boys won each quarter except for the 1st and got a decisive victory over the Magic in Mandurah, 49-36. U12-3 Boys battled the Rocking Ham Flames Team 2s 69-61. The U12-4 Boys took a tie game at end of the 1st quarter, ratcheted up the defense for the final 3 quarters and came away with a 44-71 win over Suns.

The U14 Champs Boys took the trip down to Rockingham and wasted no time getting out to 27-4 lead at the quarter. Wolves went on to win 80-28.  The U14-2 Boys have played many thrilling games this year and against the Suns 1s was no different. The two team traded the lead throughout the first 3 quarter and it would be the suns that took the biggest lead of the game 69-61 in the 4th quarter. Rui Machida knocked down a 3 to trim it to 5 and Magot Magot had a couple of transition scores to get the game back to within 1. Rui, Kamron Mahawa and Jack Bisland scored decisive baskets for the Wolves as they held on to win 78-76. The U14-3 Boys lost a close game with Hills 1s, 51-57. The U14-4 Boys dropped a game to the 2nd-place Eagles, 37-52.

The U16-1 Boys have been in good form all season but have really kicked it up a notch the last couple of weeks. They outscored their opposition 33-0 from the 3pt line en route to a 91-72 win over Magic Red. The U16-2 Boys played a nip and tuck game with the Flames 2s and came away with an 83-90 defeat. The U16-3 Boys were in great form, defeated Magic Black 89-68 with Hayden Philbey and Hamish Watt knocking down a pair of 3s apiece. The U16-4 Boys outscored their counterpart in the Flames 4s 26-17 in the 4th quarter but took a loss 65-81.

The U18 Champs Men defeated a shorthanded Cockburn Champs team 105-76.  U18-2 Men lost the 1st half 31-52 but didn’t lose heart. They mounted a once in a season type of comeback taking their first lead of the game at 81-78 on a big Chad Jarvis 3-pointer. We held on to win 83-80. The U18-3 Men Green defeated Senators 87-62. The U18-4 Men White also defeated Senators 82-77. Tane Dodunski knocked down 6 triples including an audacious stepback. Rhys Weir knocked down the final 3 of the game for the Wolfpack to turn a 2-point lead into 5.  Tyler Hirt was great throughout against his former club and Derek Deng was impressive all over the court. Too many great performances to recognize for a team that jumped out to a 27-12 lead and never dropped their heads amidst a substantial comeback attempt.

The U20 Champs Men lost 75-100 against Flames.  The U20-2 Men fought hard and played great defense, holding their opponent 20 points below their average but lost 65-72.
