Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 5 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a terrific 24-13 record.
Derby Day for the Wolves!
U16 Girls Green and White played for all the marbles. This was a close game throughout as White were a bit more effective in halfcourt and Green won the transition game. Elisabeth Leboeuf was particularly dynamic for Green in transition. Chloe Befumo notched a critical 3-pointer for her Green side. Wolves White had several players step up amidst injury and illness, including 2 3-pointers for Kaila Dodunski and Matilda Crowley.
In one of the best games of the day, U16 Boys Green and White faced off. It was an even game through halftime but Green were able put some distance between themselves and Wolves White. Charlie Killoh and Michael Van Blitterswyk were dynamic attacking the basket for Green. Leo Farmer provided this similar dimension for White. Roman Munikah played stellar defense for Green throughout the game and was a decisive factor in the 3rd quarter that his team won 29-20 on their way to a 94-82 victory. It was admirable the spirit that both teams played with, with no visible moments of trash talk or anything that took away from the game.
U18 Women Green and White met each other for a great game. Andi Morris was exceptional attacking the basket for U18 White while the same could be said for Sara Davis in Green. Charlotte Watson and Alize Smith each canned a couple of 3-pointers for Green on their way to a 74-42 victory.
U18 Men Green and White took the floor in opposition of each other. This game had it all, scoring runs by each team, transition offense, impeccable defense on the perimeter and particularly near the basket. Green opened up a 7 point lead at halftime and White responded with a huge 30-22 3rd quarter. They found a great stretch of shooting to take the lead over Green heading towards the final frame. Green stayed determined and White wasn’t backing down. In a tie game at 77, Xavier Viegas eurostepped into the key before making a perfect touch pass to a cutting Johk Atuer to take the lead 79-77. Rhys Weir answered with a touch contested finish to knot the game back at 79. Raf Viegas then gave Green the final lead of the game with a clutch bucket, and 2 clutch free throws as Green went on to win 83-79. It was great to see each team play with determination and grit throughout the game.

The U12 Champ Boys went out to Morley and defeated the East Perth Eagles 69-29 in an 8:00am start. The U12-2 Boys took a close win 55-52 at Perth Redbacks against their champs team. The U12-3 Boys followed suit and took down the Redbacks 2s 83-53.
U14 Champ Boys made it a 5-0 start to the season with a 97-48 win over Mandurah in Mandurah. The U14-2 Boys climb to 3-2 with a win over Cockburn 64-57. The U14-3 Boys played tough but ultimately fell 40-64 to ladder leader, Eastern Suns White. The U14-4 Boys win a 2nd week in a row with a 53-50 scoreline, this time over Eastern Suns Orange. This propels them to a 3-2 record and tied for 3rd in their division.
U16 Champ Boys lost 75-90 for their first loss of the season, now sitting in 2nd place on the ladder. The U16-2 Boys prevailed 80-62 over Redbacks. It’s great to see this team turn the corner in their season as they continue to build chemistry and continuity.
U18 Champ Men dominated a quality Suns side to the tune of a 125-87 victory. The Wolves won each quarter by double digits, aside from the 4th quarter when they outpaced the opposition 29-24. Taj Gleeson and Maksim Lackovic each poured in 3 3-pointers in the route. The U18-2 had a quality win of a different type, eclipsing the Eagles 84-82. Joseph Lolham has returned from injury and led the Wolves in scoring with 22. Jack Goosen poured in 5 of his teams 7 triples.
The U12 Champs Girls suffered their 2nd defeat of the season and sit at 3rd on the ladder moving to Round 6. The U12 Girls Green moved to 3-2 with a 44-28 victory. That’s 2 wins in 2 weeks by 15+ points. The U12 Girls White lost 33-35 but its great to see the improvement and development in this group!. The U12-4 Girls lost 31-41 and now sit at 2-3 in a tie for 4th.
The U14 Champs Girls lodged their 3rd victory of the season, this time against the Slammers of Bunbury. With a deficit of 4-15 after the first quarter, the Wolves were able to stabilize in the 2nd and 3rd quarters before finishing with a 21-6 run to win 51-46. Another quality win for Head Coach Tim Tolley and company. The U14-2 Girls reigned supreme against Cockburn 59-51, now 4-1 and in 2nd place on the ladder. The U14-3 Girls moved to 4-1 and a tie for first place with a 49-13 victory over Eagles. The U14-4 Girls stay undefeated with a 39-33 win over Suns.
A back and forth first half, saw the U16 Champs Girls in battle with the Mandurah Magic. It would be the Magic that opened up a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter that the Wolves rallied to eradicate. T’yanna Keating scored a critical basket in the last minute to draw the Wolves within 1pt but ultimately we were defeated 70-75. The U16-4 Girls dominated inside, outracing the Eagles 89-40.
The U18 Champs Women fell 62-80. The U18-4 Women trailed 16-31 at halftime before putting it all together across the 3rd and 4th quarters. Nikita Dye had back-to-back buckets in the 3rd quarter to draw the Wolves level. In the 4th, Rachel Vargas took the Wolves from down 1 to up with to help the Wolves complete the comeback. Its always a great effort when the your first lead of the game is the final one!
