WABL Recap – Round 9!

Wolfpack WABL teams played their round 9 games this weekend. As a collective, Wolves teams had a terrific 26-11 record, a .703 win rate, the highest of the season.

The U12 Champs Girls defeated 50-57 in a tough loss but just their 3 loss of the year. They have a great opportunity to bounce back next week against Willetton. The U12-2 Girls defeated Senators 2s by the score of 43-31, winning each quarter with each player etching their name into the scoring column. The U12-3 Girls were victorious by the score of 36-30, dealing just the second loss of the season to a quality Cockburn 3s side. The U12-4 Girls were successful defeating the Slammers 38-18 whilst winning every quarter.

The U12 Boys were 3-1 starting with the U12 Champs Boys defeating Senators Champs 64-35. The U12-2 Boys followed suit and defeated Senators 2s 62-50 on the road. With just a 4-point lead ending the 1st quarter, the Wolves exploded for a 21-3 2nd quarter to establish a 22-point halftime lead. The U12-3 Boys lost a heartbreaker, 44-46 to Suns 2s. The U12-4 Boys trailed 29-38 but remained poised and composed to win the final frame 18-6 and notch a 47-44 victory over Cougars. 

The U14 Champs Girls defeated Senators 1s for the 2nd time this season. The previous 34-32 win was backed up by an impressive 47-33 win on Sunday. The U14-2 Girls built a 20-pt lead entering the 4th quarter and held off a comeback attempt by a quality Mandurah side, winning with a 57-49 final score. The U14-3 Girls defeated Senators 47-22 with great contributions throughout the squad. The U14-4 Girls established a rhythm and momentum early in the game but were unable to hold off Flames, losing 38-52.

The U14 Champs Boys were tested by the 3rd place Senators but still managed to win every quarter, en route to a 67-46 victory. With the win the Wolves move to 9-0 on the season and look to be a great form beyond the record. The U14-2 Boys fell at the hands of Slammers 1s to the tune of 72-97. The U14-3 Boys disposed of Senators 53-50 in a thrilling road victory. In the 4th quarter alone there were 5 lead changes, but the final one went the way of the Wolfpack and a big 3-point bomb by Cruz Carlson. The U14-4 Boys defeated Cockburn 72-44 while making 5 3-pointers.

The U16 Girls had a 2-2 record on the weekend. The U16-3 Girls defeated Flames 3s 68-59. A 7-point halftime deficit was turned into victory with a thunderous third quarter and fatal fourth quarter to boot. The U16-4 Girls won 44-37 over a Suns, never conceding more than 10 points in a quarter. The U16 Champs Girls lost 60-67, but maintain their 2nd spot on the ladder. They will be tested again next week against current ladder leaders in Tigers. The U16-2 Girls fell at the hands of Lakeside 39-45.

The U16-1 Boys were impressive, winning 103-56 this weekend. The U16-2 Boys vaulted from 7th to 5th on the ladder with a  85-74 win over Eagles 2s. The U16-3 Boys went to Rocko early on a Sunday and came away with a  96-80 win. The U16-4 Boys matched up with Lakeside 3s and despite a significant halftime deficit, they were able to mount a quality stretch in the 3rd quarter to whittle the lead down to 11. Ultimately unable to get over the hump on their way to a 74-98 loss.

The U18 Champs Women defeated 48-85 as they await their next matchup with Willetton this Sunday. The U18-2 Women won 106-50 over Senators. The U18-3 Women lost 47-66 against Eagles 2s. they were competitive in each quarter except for the 3rd quarter where the Wolves were outscored 9-19. The U18-4 Women defeated Redbacks 3s 54-31 behind a 33-10 margin in the 2nd half.

The U18 Men were 4-0 on Sunday. The U18-4 Men won 83-65, climbing to 4th on the ladder.  The U18-3 Men defeated Senators 75-72 with Raf Viegas and Johk Atuer pouring in a pair a 22-point efforts. The U18-2 Men defeated Senators 93-97. Joseph Lolham poured in 9 consecutive Wolfpack points in the 4th quarter. Then Jack Goosen scored the decisive bucket before the game was salted away with free throws. The U18 Champs Men defeated Senators 114-100 with Luis Pibworth knocking down 6 of his teams 13 triples.

The U21 Champs Women struggled to get in rhythm but kept it close into the 4th quarter where they succumbed to the Slammers 60-86.

The U20 Champs Men dropped Senators Champs 89-77 with 22 points from Max Bennett. The U20-2 Men took a 12-point halftime lead and turned it into a 123-58 victory over Slammers.

The D-League Women suffered their 4th loss of the season and now sit at 6-4 on the season.

The D-League Men zapped the Lightning 103-72 and sit at 10-2 on the season.
